What's our vision for Southeastern?
More reliable, cleaner, more secure and faster trains
Over the next six years we will invest over £70 million to make an expanded rail service in Kent, East Sussex and South East London faster, more reliable, safer and more secure.
Our work behind the scenes began on 1 April 2006 and you will already have noticed some real improvements.
A better travelling experience
Less crowded trains. We will add additional services to meet demand and ease crowding around the morning and evening peak times through better use of trains and train crews. We will also rework the timetable in December 2007 to reduce congestion and delays around the London Bridge area.
More punctual trains. A comprehensive timetable overhaul will be completed by December 2007 to improve punctuality and deliver more services. Our target for improving performance is for 9 out of 10 trains to be on time within three years, rising to 15 out of 16 by 2014.
More connected trains. We will aim to install Wi-Fi access on the mainline fleet.
More flexible fares. Zonal fares will be introduced in the London area.
Cleaner trains and stations. Station and train cleaning programmes include the removal of graffiti within 24 hours.
Better stations
More secure, accessible and approachable. A comprehensive station improvement programme to install help points, improve accessibility, improve car parking, improve CCTV and improve customer information systems will be embarked upon.
Cleaner, brighter stations. All stations will be repainted within three years. We will be measured by our ratings in the National Passenger Survey.
Easier ticket buying experience. We will upgrade and renew station ticket machines and develop new e-ticketing opportunities to make it easier to buy tickets on-line. We will also introduce a zonal fare structure in the London area and work to introduce simple zonal fares cross the network.
Better security
More vigilant. We will make a £17.6 million investment in modern Closed Circuit TV on the entire train fleet.
Less vandalism. We are targeting a 20% reduction in cancellations due to vandalism.
Faster trains
High-speed train services will link Kent and London in December 2009.
French fast train expertise. As we roll out the new high-speed domestic service we will have the continuous support of our shareholder, SNCF, the French national railway company. SNCF are acknowledged globally as the world's leading high-speed rail company.
A better workplace, more in touch with communities
We will achieve full Investors in People accreditation by the end of 2009; 35% of the workforce will have an NVQ qualification by the same date. A new stakeholder advisory board bringing together passengers and staff has been established.
