What happens on April 1?
You probably won't notice anything immediately, but on April 1, London and South Eastern Railway a wholly owned subsidiary of Govia takes over operating the Integrated Kent Franchise. Behind the scenes our improvement programme will begin on that date and you'll start to see concrete changes within the year. We will operate the franchise under the name "Southeastern".
What improvements are planned?
We'll be implementing a comprehensive programme of improvements to create a better travelling experience for our passengers, improve our stations, improve security and make a better workplace. We'll also be introducing high-speed services in 2009. Check out the The Plan section of this website for details.
Will there be any change to ticket prices?
There are no changes scheduled right now.
What about the trains?
Yes, we'll be investing in updating our rolling stock over the next eight years. Our plan for the franchise ensures we will keep the newer fleet looking smart. We plan to refresh the interior of the entire fleet halfway through the franchise. Our high-speed service which begins in 2009 will be powered by state-of-the-art high-speed trains built by Hitachi. £87 million is being invested in depot facilities at Ashford and Ramsgate.
Will there be more services?
Yes - the first new services on the busiest routes will begin in December 2006.
What about punctuality and reliability?
We've got targets for increased punctuality and reliability. We expect to see real improvements within twelve months.
When will the high-speed services begin?
The first will launch in December 2009
Is the community involved?
We’re instituting a new Stakeholder Advisory Board to make sure the voice of the community is heard. We will work in partnership with local authorities, keep passenger groups informed and hold regular "Meet the Manager" sessions.
